Victor Piskunov has learned his first professional
skills of painting in Kharkov at the Studio of professional artist Vladislav Shalamov.
In 1992 Piskunov graduated from Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Academy
of Arts), successfully having submitted the diploma devoted to Pskovo-Pecherskiy monastery.
Victor has been working, mainly, in the genres of landscape and portrait. The painter travels
much to northern Russian monasteries, around the Ukraine, the south of Russia and the Caucasus,
peering in life of the Nature and of the Man as the integral part of the Nature. In his
paintings one can see the warmth and spontaneity in reflecting characters of people, naturalness
of images.
The annual trips to Arkhangelsk have been finished by creation of "a northern cycle": "March",
"Winter in Solombala", "Thawing", "The House of Peter Timofeyevich" and other paintings. The
North became the "Mecca" for Russian artists of the boundary of the centuries. V.Serov,
K.Korovin, later S.Gerasimov, B.Ugarov opened for themselves poetry of Russian northern lands.
The same line of a lyrical landscape continues in the creativity of Victor Piskunov. Perhaps,
in the northern series of paintings for the first time in all complexity there appear problems
of light and plain-air. The artist converts to searches of new colour possibilities. His graphic
pallet lightens and is enriched by a set of the thinnest pearly nuances.
